Will there be any TO-LET boards in Germany

What if there is a to-let board displayed or not, how does it matter for me. This would be your obvious question. So to explain the relevance, here I wanna share one of my very funny experiences.

Last summer one of the new student arrived here in Germany with great confidence that he could find an accommodation after coming here. And he is so confident that  he didn't even bother to arrange some temporary accommodation for his initial stay. After the enrollment and registration, he is at the university searching for some colleagues, who can accommodate him for the initial days as all the hotels and youth hostels are completely booked.  I hope you can imagine his relief, finally when he found someone from his country. I asked him, on what belief you landed in a foreign land with out proper planning, where you hardly know anyone. He replied "I thought there would be some to-let boards and I can find an accommodation".

Some times even the senior students from your country could not be able to help you, because of their schedule and previous commitments. So, it is very important to arrange an initial stay near a friend or book a stay in hotel or youth hostel (Jungendherberge) well in advance.
